The DMACC War and the Human Experience (WHE) Speaker Series is pleased to welcome Sidney Thompson (right), author of “The Bass Reeves Trilogy,” to DMACC as a guest speaker. Thompson will speak from Noon to 12:50 p.m. on Mon., Feb. 26th in the DMACC Boone Campus Auditorium in conjunction with Black History Month. This event is FREE and open to the public.
Thompson will lead a presentation on Bass Reeves (left), who was born a slave, participated in the Civil War, escaped to Indian Territory, and served as a U.S. Marshal in the West, arresting more than 3,000 fugitives. While Reeves has often been overlooked in history, some historians believe his legendary story was the inspiration for the pop-culture icon the Lone Ranger.
Recently, Thompson’s stories about Bass Reeves were used for the Paramount+ TV miniseries “Lawmen: Bass Reeves,” which premiered in Nov. 2023.
